5. Tamara lives 3/4 km from school. She runs 1/3 of the distance and then walks the rest of the way to her house. How far does Tamara run?

Tamara runs 1/4 km.

10. An order of bruschetta for 4 uses 1/3 of a load of French bread. How much of a load does each person get when they share the order equally?

4 uses 1/3. They all get 1/12 of a loaf

Raphaels Fraction scribe post

To divide a fraction you obviously need fractions.

If our fraction is 4/5 divided by 1/2, how could we turn that into a question (Wilson Way)?

How Many Groups of a half are in four fifths?

Once we write down the question we can finally do the math. The most important part about dividing fractions is the Reciprocal, the reciprocal makes your  Denominator 1.

Steps on how to successfully solve the math question

1. You re-write the math statement just like on the picture above
2. Use reciprocal to make denominator 1
3. Multiply
4. Solve

6. Determine each quotient by completing the number lines.
(sorry if the  pictures are backwards)

8. A board that is 3/5 of a metre long is cut in half. What fraction of a metre is each piece?
a. Write a division statement to answer this problem.
3/5 divided by two
b.use a model to determine the quotient
9. Teresa finds 9/12 of a chocolate bar to share with 3 friends. What fraction of a chocolate bar does each person get?
a. Write a division statement to answer this problem

Chelsea's Fraction Scribepost

You can also put the dividing fraction into words so you can understand it more clearly.

        Example:

Here is another example of the question above
1/2 divided by 1/4. How Many 2's go into 1/2? If this confuses you we could write it down in words.

You Could also do a different method, You could do it reciprocal.
Definition of reciprocal-

A mathematical expression or function so related to another that their product is one.

Textbook Pages 228-229
 Questions 12,13, and 15

12) It takes 2 1/2 scoops of flour to make one cake. How many cakes do 15 scoops of flour make?

Answer: 15 scoops of flour makes 6 cakes.

13) 3/4 of a can of apple juice fills six glasses. How many glasses will a whole can of apple juice fill?

15) Shana and Zack painted their rooms using paint in cans of the same size. Shana used 1 1/2 cans of paint. Zack used 2 2/4 cans of paint. How many times as much paint did Zack use as Shana?

11. In a comedy review, each performer has a 1/4 hour slot. How many performers are there in a 2 hour show?

1/4 x 4 = 4/4 = 1 hour 1/4 x 8 = 8/4 = 2 hours
1/4 each performer and 8 performer is a total of 2 hours

12. It takes 2 1/2 scoops of flour to make one cake. how many do 15 scoops make?

2 1/2 + 2 1/2 = 5 x 3 = 15
2 1/2 x 4 = 10
2 1/2 x 6 = 15

13. Three quarters of a can of apple juice fills six glass. How many glass will  a whole can of apple juice fill?

3/4 is 6 glass's divide that by three and it's 2 or 1/4 add that to 3/4 that's 4/4, 8 glass or 1 can of juice.

Bethel's Fraction Scribepost

Textbook page 228-229

How to answer the questions:
- If the fraction is a whole put it in fraction form.
ex: 2 = 2/1
- If there is a mixed number you can convert it to an improper fraction.
ex:   9/3/4
     = 9 x 3 + 4
     = 39/4
- Then put the equation in fraction form.
- After that the denominator has to equal one by doing reciprocal.
Reciprocal are two numbers  that when multiplied equal one.
ex: 1/4 x 4/1 = 4/4 or 1
- What ever you do to the denominator do that for the numerator.
- Draw a diagram or write down a question to help you understand more.
-Simplify the answer if not.

Questions:

11. In a comedy review, each performer has a 1/4 hour slot. How many performers are therein a 2 hour show?

15. Shana and Zack painted their rooms using paint in cans of the  same size. Shana used 1/1/2 cans of paint. Zack used 2/3/4 cans of paint. How many times as much paint did Zack use as Shana?

23. It took Svend 9/3/4 minutes to ski up a slope on a cross-country ski trail and only took 2/1/4 minutes to ski back down the same slope. How many times as fast did he ski down the slope as he skied up it?
