*I'm answering 4 questions from 9.2 in the homework booklet just so you know. 

7. Graph the ordered pairs in the table of values.


8. Circle the table(s) of values that show a linear relation. Explain your answer. 

A shows a linear relation because "l" goes up by 2, and "m" goes up by 2 starting at 7. 

9. The table of values represents a linear relation.

a. Graph the ordered pairs. 
b. What is the difference in value for consecutive x-values? 
     The value of x increases by 1.

c. What is the difference in value for consecutive d-values?
     The value of d increases by 3.

d. The d-value is 3 times the x-value.

e. Write an expression for d in terms of x. 
      3x

10. For what number of hours is it cheaper to rent by the day rather than by the hour? Show your work.

Mariel's Integer Scribepost

(This post is extremely late. Sorry.)

Mariel's Pay it Forward

Part 1: 
What is "Pay it Forward"? To me, "Pay it Forward" is a random act of kindness. It's when you do a good deed for others, and ask for nothing in return.

Part 2: 
My act of kindness is donating gently used clothing to Canadian Diabetes. I chose to do this because I have lots of clothes that I no longer use. A few weeks ago, Canadian Diabetes called and asked if we wanted to donate clothes this year, so I took the opportunity. With my donation, I am just one of the people helping Canadians with diabetes or prediabetes. I collected many unneeded items of clothing from my closet and drawers, and placed them into a garbage bag. I have been planning this act of kindness since December 2nd, but Canadian Diabetes still hasn't picked up my donation.

(My camera hasn't been working lately, but I'll post a picture as soon as my camera works again.)

Part 3:
I think my act of kindness is going to be good. When Canadian Diabetes calls to say they're going to pick up the clothes, I will leave the bag outside my front door, and place a "D" on it to show it's for them. I feel good about what I'm doing because I'm helping a great cause, and making room for new clothes. Since Canadian Diabetes hasn't picked up the clothes yet, I haven't been been able to ask anyone to "Pay it Forward", but as soon as they do, I'll update this post.

Part 4:
I think that the idea of "Pay it Forward" is important because from just one person who decides to show a random act of kindness really inspires other to do so, and that's what counts. I think I made difference because the clothes I've donated goes to Value Village. Some day, the hoodie I donated will be on someone else's back keeping them warm from our cold weather. I know my random act of kindness didn't change the world, but I can start with this, and maybe one day, I could.

Mariel's Proportion Post

Part 1: Definitions & Examples

Ratio: -Part-to-part: Compares different parts of a group to each other.
          -Part-to-Whole: Compares one part of a group.


Rate: -Compares two quantities measured in different units. 

Example:
$6 per 12 cookies or $0.50 per cookie


Proportion: -A relationship that says that two ratios or two rates are equal.

1. 5 hours to travel 360km is about 72 km/h.

2. Emma saves 28 cents of every dollar that she earns. Emma earned $75 last week. How much money did Emma save last week? Emma saved $21 last week.

3. It's not fair because in the first case, the person stole 3 BILLION, and only has to go to jail for 40 MONTHS. Yet, the homeless man only stole $100 and has to go to jail for 15 YEARS

4. If I were the judge, I'd give the man in the first case a life sentence to jail. And I'd give the homeless man a year sentence to jail plus community service. 

**BONUS QUESTION:

How tall is the tree on the right?




I searched up the average size of a teenage boy and got 167 cm. I measured the boy with my ruler, and he was 2 cm. Then, I measured the tree on the right with my ruler, and it was 6 cm. So if I were to make the size of the boy, and the size of a tree into a fraction, it would be 2/6 or when simplified, 1/3. Then I realized, if I would multiply the average size of a teenage boy by 3, I could get an approximate size of a real tree. If your a bit confused with all my words, here's why I'm trying to say: 

So now we have the answer, we can simplify. The average teenage boy is 1.67 meters, and the tree is approximately 5.01 meters, (I'm sorry if I got the answer wrong, or completely confused you, this is my first time trying to do this kind of proportion question.) 

The tree on the right is approximately 5.01 meters.
