1st Step: Find 3 groups of 2 and a number is 8

2nd Step: write (2+x) 3 times

 3rd Step: Add the 2's and x's together to complete the example

Another way you can do this is modeling so you have to draw even though your lazy.
3 (2+x) =8

If you see the picture above you see that the 2's and x's have been added like the 3rd step above.
